College-Level Examination Program
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) allows you to take exams and receive college credit for what you’ve already learned from your military experience, training, occupation specialty or independent study. Taking these exams may help you earn course credit at CTU, which can shorten the length of your degree program. CLEP exams are eligible as proficiency credit to fulfill general education requirements at CTU. A copy of an official CLEP score report must be submitted in order to determine credit.
CLEP exams are free for eligible military personnel through the Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support (DANTES). Many military bases offer CLEP testing through their on-base education centers. Speak with an Education Services Officer on base to find out more. For study guides and practice tests visit http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/clep/about.html.
You must receive a passing score on CLEP exams if you’d like them to be considered for transfer credit*. You may take CLEP exams as many times as necessary. However, DANTES does not pay the exam fee for a previously funded CLEP exam. If military test takers want to retake an exam previously funded by DANTES, they need to wait three months and pay the exam fee in addition to the administrative fee required by the test center.
*Transfer credit is evaluated on an individual basis. Not all credits eligible to transfer. See the University Catalog for transfer credit policies
